Take a deep breath for me...
We are a group of five electrical engineering undergrads from the University of Notre Dame, class of '13. For our Senior Design project, we designed a respiration monitor that measured and displayed breath strength and frequency. We designed the monitor with hospital patients under anesthesia in mind.
The idea...
Joseph Levri's father is a retired anesthesiologist. One day he remarked to his son that in surgery, it is sometimes difficult to see if the patient is breathing or not. This could always be checked with a stethoscope, but doctors have better things to do than listen to stethoscopes all day. Joe thought to himself, "I can automate this process."
Crystal Breath...
Outlined against a blue-gray October sky, Joseph pitched his idea in Senior Design class. He assembled his team and Crystal Breath was born. The idea was developed during the fall semester of 2012, and design work commenced in Spring 2013.
